Les atténuateurs fixes servent à baisser la puissance du signal radio, notamment pour protéger un équipement (récepteur, équipement de mesure).
Par exemple, une des utilisations possible est la protection des tiroirs d’atténuation/simulateurs de handover dont la puissance d’entrée est limitée à +24 dBm (environ 250 mW)
Les émetteurs utilisés (e-NodeB, RRH, BTS, etc…) génèrent des puissances beaucoup plus élevées (50 à 100W, soit 47 à 50 dBm)
Il est donc primordial d’utiliser un atténuateur à minima de 30 dB (50 dBm – 24 dBm = 26 dB)
Les atténuateurs sont disponibles dans de multiples configurations (puissance, bande de fréquence, connectique….)
Il existe aussi des versions Low PIM, pour les applications imposant de faible niveaux d’intermodulation.
Par ailleurs, en tant que représentant de la société BIRD Technologies, HYTEM propose des atténuateurs refroidis par huile jusqu’à 4kW
